Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, fiancee of deceased former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandes, says that she doesn’t think he killed himself – or anybody else. At the time of his death, which has been ruled a suicide, Hernandez was serving life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd – that conviction was officially dismissed after Aaron Hernandez’s death because the former footballer hadn’t exhausted all appeals. However, the Bristol County D.A.’s Office has announced a plan appeal that decision.
According to details from the scene of his suicide, Aaron Hernandez went to a great deal of trouble to pull it off. He reportedly used liquid hand soap to make his prison cell floor slippery before hanging himself. Further publicized details pertaining to his death indicate that Hernandez also shoved cardboard into his cell door to make it more difficult for guards to enter his cell. It is said that Hernandez had the words “John 3:16” written on his forehead when he was found in his cell, a reference to a Bible verse popular in jails and prisons.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have eternal life.”
It has also been reported that Hernandez spent at least two weeks planning his suicide, going so far as to give away his possessions, and carried it out despite being acquitted of two more murder counts just five days before he took his life.
Even so, according to his fiance Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, she doesn’t believe that Aaron committed suicide. Or murder. Jenkins-Hernandez, who had been involved with Hernandez since high school and is the mother of his young child, made her bombshell claims on The Dr. PhilShow, half of which aired Monday. As CNN reports, the previously-recorded show featured Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee still decked out in her engagement ring as she spoke to TV’s Dr. Phil McGraw.
According to Jenkins-Hernandez, she and the rest of Aaron’s loved ones were completely shocked when the former Patriot was found guilty of murder.
“It was a shock to all of us. We were definitely leaning more toward an innocent verdict.”

Dr. Phil today with #AaronHernandez fiancé is hard to watch. She’s acting so sketchy and we should believe you didn’t know anything? ????????
In addition to claiming to have been shocked at her fiancee’s murder conviction, Jenkins-Hernandez said that she ‘truly’ didn’t believe that Aaron Hernandez was guilty of the crime.
“I truly don’t. I’ve said it over and over. He may have been at the wrong place, wrong time, but I don’t think what is said to be out there is actually accurate.”
Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee went on to discuss his alleged suicide with Dr. Phil, making it clear that she doesn’t believe that he took his own life. According to Jenkins-Hernandez, there were no red flags in his behavior leading up to his death. She says that Aaron spoke to his daughter the night before he died, and talked to her about coming home soon and sleeping in bed with her and her mother.
Jenkins-Hernandez says that her conversations with Aaron Hernandez prior to his death were “completely normal,” and and that he said nothing to lead her to believe he was depressed, let alone committing suicide. In fact, Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee told Dr. Phil that his recent acquittal had become the “high point” in his ongoing legal battle.
“I don’t know what to believe, to be honest with you. It’s just not the Aaron that I know. I think that if he would have done something like this, it would have been at his worst, and I felt like it was looking so bright. We were going up a ladder, in a sense, to a positive direction. I don’t think this was a suicide, knowing him. I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Jenkins-Hernandez unequivocally stated that if she’d known or even suspected that Aaron Hernandez was contemplating suicide, she would have done whatever she need to do to get him the help he needed. She also says that she “wants answers.”
When he died, Aaron Hernandez left behind three suicide notes. One was addressed to Jenkins-Hernandez, another to the couple’s daughter, and a third, more mysterious note was allegedly addressed to his prison lover, although that has not been confirmed. According to his fiancee, the suicide note Aaron Hernandez left for her was strange and not necessarily written as she imagined he would have done.
“It screamed love, but it wasn’t personal. It wasn’t intimate…. There were some odd parts where It didn’t make sense. The handwriting was similar but I feel like, again, you have nothing but time in there, so, I feel like it’s easily duplicated or could be”
During Monday’s airing of The Dr. Phil Show, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez didn’t directly address the rumors that Aaron Hernandez is bisexual or even gay, or that he may have had a prison lover at the time of his death. She also didn’t discuss new rumors that her fiancee may have taken his own life to preserve her stake in his fortune – the end-of-show teaser indicated those subjects would be discussed on Tuesday, during the interview’s second half.
